They are a true gem of Puerto Rican comfort food. While they might look similar to domplines, the secret is in the preparation: instead of being fried, they are gently boiled in salted water. This gives them a soft, delicate texture that pairs perfectly with traditional salted cod (bacalao) or any savory stew. It’s a taste of island tradition in every bite!
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of all-purpose flour
- ½ cup of hot water
- 1 tsp of vegetable oil
- salt ( to taste)
Methods:
- Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, oil, and a pinch of salt.
- Mix: Slowly add the hot water to the flour mixture, stirring constantly until a soft dough forms.
- Shape: Take small portions of the dough and roll them into cylinder shapes (rolls).
- Boil: Bring a large pot of water to a boil and add salt to taste. Carefully place the guanimes into the boiling water.
- Cook: Boil for 10 to 20 minutes. Once they are firm and cooked through, remove them from the water.
- Serve: Drain well and enjoy them warm with your favorite side dish!
