One of the most famous Puerto Rican drinks, the Piña Colada, is a staple at any summer party. Whether you enjoy it «virgin» (non-alcoholic) or with a splash of rum (alcoholic), it is a tropical classic loved both inside and outside of Puerto Rico.
funny memory with piña colada.
I’ll never forget one time at a Punta Cana resort in the Dominican Republic. I was at a bar and wanted a Piña Colada. I actually wanted the alcoholic version, but I was a bit shy and didn’t know exactly how to ask for it, so I accidentally ordered a «virgin» one instead. The bartender must have read my mind, because he got confused and gave me the alcoholic one anyway! It was exactly what I wanted, even if I didn’t know how to say it at the time.
Ingredients:
8 oz, 10 oz, 12 oz pineapple juice
1 can of coconut cream
1 cherry
1 mini umbrela
Methods:
In a blender, combine 8 to 12 oz of pineapple juice (depending on how strong you want the flavor), the coconut cream, and 2 cups of ice. Blend until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
If the consistency is too thin, add a little more ice and blend again until thick.
Pour the mixture into a glass or a festive plastic cup.
Top it off with a maraschino cherry. For a truly creative and tropical look, add a little paper umbrella next to the cherry!
