Lely’s Family Sauce 🍯🧄

⏳ Prep: 10 mins
✨ Yield: 1 Bowl

Use a pilón for the garlic and olives to release those traditional oils! 🔊

This recipe I learn that is my great-grandmother own/orinal recipie, my family and I use it when we eat tostones, arañitas, mofongo, and seafood; it has been in my family for years, similar to the mojo ilseño, but it is not that. Ingredient:
  • Pilón
  • 1 can of tomato sauce
  • 1 or 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1 tsp of ketchup
  • 5 chopped olives
  • olive oil
  Method:
  • Prep the Base: First, chop the garlic cloves and olives roughly.
  • The Pilón or cobek Method: If you have a pilón or cobek (if not, use a bowl), place the garlic and olives inside and smash them together until they form a paste.
  • Build the Sauce: Stir in the olive oil and the tomato sauce, mixing well.
  • Sweeten & Smooth: Taste the mixture, then slowly pour in the ketchup while stirring to get that perfect consistency.
  • The Final Touch: Taste the sauce again. If you want more kick, add more garlic; if you want it smoother, add more ketchup.
Just to let you know, if you are in Bali and can’t find your usual Puerto Rican brands at the Hypermart, don’t worry—just look for fresh local garlic and any tomato base, and the flavor will still be amazing.
