This is the ultimate Puerto Rican party drink! If you’ve been to a chinchorreo or a beach party in PR, you know exactly what this is. While you can buy the pouches at the store, making it fresh at home takes it to a whole new level.
The Meaning of Chinchorreo: In Puerto Rico, Chinchorreo is more than just a word; it’s a lifestyle. It refers to the tradition of gathering a group of friends or family to go «bar hopping» in the mountains or along the coast, usually in several cars or even a party bus!
It’s the perfect setting for my favorite alcoholic beverage. I’ll never forget the first time I had a Gasolina; I was 18 years old, and it has been a favorite ever since. Now, you can’t have a real party or a chinchorreo without it!
Ingredients:
2 oz White Rum (Don Q is the way to go)
2 oz Silver Tequila
2 oz Passion Fruit Juice (Jugo de Parcha)
1 oz Orange Juice
1 oz Grenadine (for that classic color)
½ oz Lemon or Lime Juice
Ice
Methods:
Mix it up: In a shaker (or a large glass), combine the rum, tequila, and all the juices.
Add the sweetness: Pour in the grenadine. This gives it that signature «Gasolina» look.
Shake or Stir: Add ice and shake well until it’s nice and cold.
Serve: Pour it into a tall glass or, to be truly authentic, serve it in a pouch or a plastic cup with plenty of ice.
Garnish: Add a slice of orange or a cherry if you want to be fancy.
