Cuba Libre

Simple, iconic, and refreshing. While it was named to celebrate Cuba’s independence, this drink is a staple in every Puerto Rican gathering. The secret to a perfect Cuba Libre isn’t just mixing rum and cola—it’s the fresh lime and the right ratio!   Ingredients:
  • 2 oz Puerto Rican White Rum (Don Q Cristal is the island’s favorite for this)
  • 4-6 oz Coca-Cola (Classic)
  • ½ Fresh Lime
  • Ice (plenty of it!)
  • Garnish: An extra lime wedge.
  Methods:
  1. The Lime Base: Squeeze the juice of half a lime into a tall glass (highball). Drop the spent lime wedge into the glass too—the oils from the skin add extra flavor!
  2. Ice it up: Fill the glass to the top with fresh ice.
  3. The Spirit: Pour in your 2 oz of Puerto Rican rum.
  4. The Mix: Top with cold Coca-Cola.
  5. The Stir: Give it a very gentle stir with a long spoon just to combine (don’t stir too much or you’ll lose the bubbles!).
  6. Garnish: Add a fresh lime wedge on the rim and enjoy.
