Chichaíto

If you are at a chinchorreo and someone yells ‘¡Un Chichaíto!’, get ready! This is the most iconic shot in Puerto Rico. It’s simple, strong, and traditionally served in a small plastic shot cup. It’s the perfect way to toast with friends while listening to some salsa or reggaetón.

Ingredients:

  • ½ oz Palo Viejo Rum (specifically Palo Viejo for the authentic taste)
  • ½ oz Anisette (Anís del Mono or Marie Brizard)
  • Ice (only for shaking)
  • Optional: For a ‘Chichaíto de Nutella’ or ‘Chichaíto de Parcha’, you just add a splash of your favorite cream or juice!

Methods:

  1. The Mix: In a cocktail shaker, combine equal parts of Palo Viejo rum and Anisette.
  2. Chill it: Add ice and shake vigorously for about 10 seconds. You want it ice cold.
  3. Strain: Pour the mixture into a shot glass, leaving the ice behind.
  4. Enjoy: Serve immediately. ¡Salud!
